QUALIFICATIONS: Specialist's degree in Educational Administration but would consider a Masters degree in Educational Administration with a Principal Certificate with the plan to complete the Specialist Degree within the next two years. Previous building level leadership experience preferred.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Superintendent provides leadership, vision and strategic direction for the District's school improvement initiatives. The position requires a strong academic leader who can clearly see both possibilities and obstacles and develop a plan of action to move academic achievement forward.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Directs the administration and coordination of the district's educational programs. Provides staff leadership to ensure understanding of the educational objectives of the district. Supports district and teachers to design and implement plans designed to improve student achievement. Collaborates with appropriate individuals to project staff needs and provide appropriate staff development. Sets priorities and measurable goals and effectively manages district resources to support priorities and goal achievement. Keeps informed on latest research, trends and developments in all areas of education and interprets these matters for staff. Supervises the educational program. Prepares reports and recommendations for the board of education. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local statutes and board of education policies as they relate to educational programs. Develops budgets and manages and evaluates budgetary needs and activities. Assists in the development of policies, procedures and programs. Resolves concerns and conflicts in a reasonable manner. Monitors and evaluates work performance of all employees. Recommends to the Board of Education the employment, promotion or termination of the staff employed to carry out the educational programs of this position.
The Miami R-1 School District is an accredited district with a 4-day week, approximately 80 students, and 20 staff members.
